Man Dodges Suicide Pact With Bride
An Iranian man who struck a suicide pact with his new bride over their guilt for having pre-marital sex is being held by police after he backed out on his side of the bargain, judiciary officials said on Sunday.
The couple, who were not named, had been married for just two days when, “due to their guilty consciences for having illicit sexual relations, they decided to kill each other at the same time,” the official said.
The man helped to hang his wife but then changed his mind about killing himself and handed himself in to police in the northeastern Khorasan province, the official told the ISNA student news agency.
Pre-marital sex is taboo in the Islamic state where some girls have to go through a virginity test before tying knot.
Yikes – that’s some serious guilt, man. And here I thought my years as a Catholic were bad…it took me a long time to recover from those years! To commit suicide for guilt feelings over pre-marital sex…I’m beginning to feel guilty that I don’t feel a shred of guilt about my current pre-marital sex situation over here.
I wonder what kind of dark cloud of guilt he will carry with him for the rest of his life with the knowledge that he let his wife kill herself…but he backed out at the last minute? Which guilt do you think is worse?
Pre-marital sex guilt……versus….chickening out on a suicide pact guilt? Hmmmm.
I’m thinking he would have been better off just to cut off his member.
Wouldn’t suicide just send them straight to hell? Isn’t that one of those ‘mortal sins’? How is that making things better?
