Celebrate Ben!

Woke up early this morning because we had a small get together to celebrate my son’s graduation from 8th grade (do they call it graduation or promotion?). His graduation has been no small task. These last three years in middle school have been a source of anxiety, agitation and sometimes chaos around here. The kid is smart, there’s no question. He’s just….umm…well, somewhat challenging, to say the least.

After much upheaval about the whole school thing with him…after a year of home schooling, after endless arguments, persistence, meetings, hugs, hair pulling, reasoning, blame shifting, and overall teenage angst – the day has arrived. It’s been a long haul – but I never once ever thought he wouldn’t do it. That kid of mine did a heck of a lot of growing up over the past year – and the improvements he has seen have been tremendous.

Today we had a cook out and little family celebration. On Tuesday – his official ceremony when he graduates from 8th grade and takes a summer break before starting high school in the fall. I’m so proud of him, I could burst.

Now if only I could get him to cut that ‘Cousin It’ hair that he’s sporting. /sigh.
